North Manchester Foundry To Close, Costing 95 Jobs
NORTH MANCHESTER — A century-old foundry in North Manchester will close, costing nearly 100 workers their jobs.
NewsChannel 15 has confirmed that Manchester Metals will close due to “financial burdens,” according to North Manchester town manager Adam Penrod. He said about 95 workers would lose their jobs as a result.
It’s not clear when the final day of operations will be. Penrod said he was still waiting for official word from Manchester Metals.
A Google search shows the foundry listed as “Permanently closed.”
According to Manchester Metals’ website, the foundry specializes in short to medium run production, producing high-quality castings of Ductile and Gray Iron. It produces castings from a fraction of an ounce to 1,500 pounds, the website says.
The plant opened in 1911.
Penrod said the town was working with Northeast Indiana Works to get assistance for impacted workers.
