WCS: Student Activity Center Nearly $700K Under Budget
WARSAW — After months of speculating about the upcoming Student Activity Center project, it’s scope, cost and timetable, the Warsaw Community School Corporation’s Board of Trustees received a report at its’ regular monthly board meeting Monday, April 23, that put the project in more tangible terms. The good news is the much-needed project will sail in more than $600,000 under budget.
“We have completed the pre-construction portion of that (construction manager) contract,” said David Jankowski of Weigand Construction. “Since the project is now bid and we have all the final numbers in, attached to that is the amendment for the guaranteed maximum price along with a substantial completion date. We’re projecting now July 30, 2019.” Jankowski told the board that he had included a list of trade contractors that Weigand had evaluated and determined to be the low responsive bidders.
The board held a public hearing prior to the presentation and Jankowski also allowed for questions, which there were none.
The bids for the project were opened April 12.
The Student Activity Center will be located near the Warsaw Area Career Center. Construction is scheduled to begin next month.
While the school corporation had allowed for a maximum project cost of $10 million, Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert said the cost came in under budget. “It came in under the proposed maximum,” he said. The total estimated cost of the project is $9,321,903, which is $678,097 under budget.
