Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 20
Girls Tennis
The Warsaw girls tennis team capped a fine week by blanking Fort Wayne Concordia 5-0.
The host Tigers captured four matches in straight sets to down the Cadets in the non-conference matchup.
Ella Knight paced Warsaw to its fourth win in four nights with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles.
Alyssa Zellers posted a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles for the Tigers and Taylor Shoaf completed the sweep with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
The No. 1 doubles team of Reagan Merchant and Rachel Yeager won 6-2, 6-1. The duo of Rachel Boyle and Amy Herendeen posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Warsaw won 10-2 in JV action. Winning in singles play were Maddie Ray, Izzy Ray and Kat Josellis. Winners in doubles action were the teams of Addison Marshall and Anna Grill, Katrielle Rodgers and Annie Burnett, Jaya Panicker and Abby Rucoi, Gracie Lewis and Charlotte Grandon, Mikayla Roller and Heather Rickert, Faith Delp and Dezeray Miller and Jen Straits and Paige Zawadzki.
Warsaw, now 5-1, plays at Fort Wayne Carroll Monday.
Softball
The Warsaw softball team had the pitch and the pop at the plate both going.
The host Tigers rolled to a 10-2 win over Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference play.
Courtney Chookie was outstanding in the circle for Warsaw. She fired a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks as Warsaw improved to 2-1 in league play.
Warsaw wasted no time in taking control with five runs in the first inning. Saylor Bradley led the way with a two-run single in the first frame.
Warsaw, which improves to 4-4 overall, piled up 17 hits in the win.
The quartet of Chookie, Lindsey Bradley, Emaili Grose and Adara Frey each had three hits to lead the way. Katie Anderson and Saylor Bradley both also had multiple hits for the Tigers.
Warsaw returns to NLC action at NorthWood on Monday evening.
Baseball
The Warsaw baseball team dropped a 5-1 final at Plymouth.
The Tigers lost to the Pilgrims to suffer their third Northern Lakes Conference setback in three straight nights.
Starter Caden Bowers went five strong innings, but too the loss for the Tigers.
Jared Hawley led the offense with a pair of hits, including a double.
Warsaw, now 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the NLC, hosts Kokomo for a doubleheader Saturday.
