Boys golf
Triton’s boys golf teams both brought home hardware Saturday.
The varsity team won the Whitko Invitational championship at Sycamore, and the JV Trojans won the Plymouth JV Invitational title at Pretty Lake.
Triton’s top five carded a 335 ahead of runner-up Fairfield’s 347. Tippecanoe Valley finished eighth at the nine-team invite with a 414 score, meanwhile.
Beau Hepler led the Trojans in North Manchester, and both Isaac Wall and Keegan Westafer were close behind with scores of 83. Chase Butler shot 87 as Triton’s top four all broke 90, and Brock Watkins’ 94 was the team’s fifth score.
Triton’s JV carded a 373, five strokes ahead of Chesterton to win the Plymouth Invite, meanwhile. NorthWood finished fifth with a 385 at the 16-team tilt.
Carter Kuntz and Brendan Wareham led Triton with dual 90s. John Gardner shot 96, and Kaden Atkins was close behind with a 97.
Keaton Kitson paced NorthWood’s JV with an 85, and Jon Cripe shot 95 for the Panthers. Liam Hammond carded 101, Marius Ley shot 104, and Noah Schwartz turned in a 114.
Triton golf will play in the Marshall County Meet next Saturday at 8 a.m.
Girls tennis
A short-handed Triton girls tennis team managed to stay unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over visiting Whitko 3-2 in Bourbon Friday.
With seniors Kolbie Mason and Emma Ross both out of the lineup for freshmen sign-up day at Butler, Hannah Wanemacher slotted in at 1 singles in Mason’s place, where she topped Jackie Werstler, 6-1, 6-4. Ivy Powell and Lexia Hostrawser moved up to 2 doubles, where they battled back from a first-set loss to beat Katherine Ousley and Blair Creamer in a third-set tiebreaker 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(5), and Molly McFarland (T) beat Natalie Iholtz 6-2, 7-5, at 2 singles for Triton’s other match point of the evening.
Megan McFarland and Emma Hepler bumped up from 2 to 1 doubles in place of Wanemacher and Ross, and they only narrowly lost to Whitko’s Jenna VanCuren and Mahkinsey Myers in another three-setter, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Haley Hooley fell 6-3, 6-1 to Kayla Schipper at 3 singles in Whitko’s other varsity win.
Triton moved to 3-0 with the win, while Whitko slid to 2-3.
The JV Lady Trojans won their meet with Whitko, 3-0.
