NorthWood Sports Wrap: April 21
Girls Tennis
It was a championship day for the NorthWood girls tennis team Saturday.
The Panthers posted a perfect 3-0 record to win the title of the New Prairie Invitational. The event had been postponed April 21 due to poor weather.
NorthWood beat Knox 4-1 and Lake Station 5-0 before blanking the hosts 5-0 for the championship.
Junior Reegan Miller went 3-0 on the day at No. 1 singles to lead the way for coach Tif Schwartz’s squad. Junior Gretchen Adams was also undefeated in No. 2 singles play for the Panthers.
NorthWood also won all of its doubles matches on the day. The senior tandem of Kennedy Wiens and Betsy Nunemaker were 3-0 at No. 1 play. The team of sophomore Alex Jesse and junior Riley Graber were 3-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Lauren Mikel was 2-1 at No. 3 singles play for the champs.
NorthWood improves to 4-3 on the season.
The NorthWood junior varsity team went 1-2 in the Concord Invitational Saturday. The Panthers beat Mishawaka Marian 4-1 and lost to Northridge 4-1 and to Concord 3-2.
Freshman Kate Stillson was 2-0 at No. 1 singles play to lead the NorthWood JV contingent.
NorthWood hosts Northridge in a conference meet Monday evening at Goshen College.
Softball
The NorthWood softball team dropped a 14-2 final to South Bend Adams in non-conference play.
Grace Anglemyer slugged a home run to lead the offense for the Panthers.
Alexis Klotz had two hits and Anglemyer, Amanda Jenkins, Gracie Clark and Kylie Hochstetler each had one hit.
NorthWood, now 6-3, hosts Warsaw in a key conference game Monday evening at the Callander Complex in Nappanee.
