Warsaw Sports Wrap: April 19
Girls Tennis
The Warsaw girls tennis team picked up a 4-1 win over Fairfield.
Senior Liza Lewis capped the non-conference win with a three-set victory over Morgan Mast in a clash of two of the area’s top singles players.
Lewis, who will play at Marian University, won the first set 6-1. Mast, who is bound for Grace College, evened the match by taking the second set 7-5. Lewis then won the third set by a 6-3 count.
Senior Ella Knight continued to shine for Warsaw with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sidney Hochsteder at No. 2 singles.
Sophomore Alyssa Zellers completed the singles sweep for Warsaw with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3 over Aleandra Swank.
Warsaw also won on the No. 1 doubles court as Taylor Shoaf and Libby Jenkins topped Madison Cole and Kylie Miller 6-1, 6-2.
Fairfield collected its point at No. 2 doubles as the team of Madeline Gawthrop and Riley Miller bested Reagan Merchant and Rachel Yeager 6-4, 6-3.
Warsaw, which won its third match in three nights, improves to 4-1 on the season.
Warsaw won the JV action by an 8-4 count. Winning in singles play for Warsaw were Amy Herendeen and Maddie Ray. Picking up wins in doubles action were the teams of Rachel Boyle and Addison Marshall, Anna Grill and Izzie Ray, Katrielle Eodgers and Annie Burnett, Abby Rucoi and Jaya Panicker, Gracie Lewis and Charlotte Grandon and Jennifer Straits and Audrey Turley.
Warsaw hosts Fort Wayne Concordia Friday.
Boys Golf
Luke Delp led the way to a win for the Warsaw boys golf team.
Delp earned medalist honors by shooting a 36 in challenging wind and cold conditions as the host Tigers defeated Homestead by a 161-173 count at the Stonehenge Golf Club.
Sam Yeager finished with a 40 and Zach LaLonde shot a 41 for the winners. Tommy Meier and Chase Bryon each shot a 44 and Jacob LaLonde a 46 for the Tigers.
Garett Willis led Homestead with a 39.
Cole Voss shot a 40 as the JV Tigers won 200-202. Tucker Carlile shot a 48 for Warsaw. Also contributing to the JV win were Brian Elliott, Noah Pequignot, Lucas Rhoades and Mason Whitaker.
Warsaw will compete in the Lake Central Invitational on Saturday.
