Wawasee Sports Wrap: April 18
Boys Golf
Wawasee finally got its boys golf season underway Tuesday, taking a dual win over Central Noble at Cobblestone.
Wawasee posted a 178-212 victory in the expected less-than-ideal conditions, dealing with wet and windy scenarios in its nine-hole dual.
Dillon Drake was the match medalist with a 41 in leading the Warriors. Zach Leedy followed up with a 43, Evan Dippon a 46, Jared Krugman a 48 and Luke Weisser a 52.
Alan Golden led the Cougars with a 50 and Logan Behm chipped in a 52. Casey Phleidner and Nick Alwine each shot 55 and Riley Smith finished at 58.
Jake Cowan and Aiden Joneson each tallied 48s for the Warriors in the JV card.
Wawasee (1-0) is slated to continue its calendar Saturday at the Whitko Invite.
Girls Track
A short-handed Wawasee side couldn’t keep up with Plymouth or Goshen in Northern Lakes Conference track duals in the Elkhart County seat.
Plymouth defeated Wawasee 80-43 and Goshen topped Wawasee 84-39, Goshen then getting the best of Plymouth 67-56.
The Lady Warriors had just two event wins, and Kenzie Smith was involved in both of them. Smith won the 800 outright at 2:40.77, and also helped the 4×800 relay team to open the meet with a 10:57.30. Smith teamed with Ella Beezley, Bailey Mayhew and Nadia Palacios for the win.
CeCe Robinson of Plymouth won both throws events, edging Wawasee’s Sara Pritchard by 15 inches in discus with a 99-0 best throw. Robinson easily outdistanced everyone in shot put with a toss of 36-9.
Jill Kissinger of Goshen was involved in three event wins, taking both the 100 hurdles (16.52) and the 300 hurdles (48.74) and helped the 4×400 relay to a 4:23.31 win. Kissinger didn’t get a chance to race Wawasee’s top hurdler, Hannah-Marie Lamle, who was out of the meet for personal reasons.
Kissinger’s teammate, Reyma Johnson, also was part of three wins, taking the 100 dash (13.46), 200 dash (28.22) and was with Kissinger in the 4×400 relay.
Wawasee (0-3 NLC) is scheduled to compete Saturday in the Turtletown Classic at Churubusco.
