Triton Sports Wrap: April 11
Girls tennis
Triton’s girls tennis team opened its season with a 4-1 victory over host Tippecanoe Valley in Akron Wednesday evening.
Kolbie Mason shut out Lea Stouder, 0-0 at one singles, Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross combined for a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kaleigh Shumaker and Morgan Gilbertson at one doubles, and Megan McFarland and Emma Hepler put away Makayla Sandbakkan and MaKenzie Costello, 6-1, 6-1 at two doubles. Molly McFarland beat Tiphanie Hodge, 3-0, at two singles in the Lady Trojans’ other win of the night.
Valley’s only victory came at three singles, where Makenna Bradley beat Amanda Baker in two 6-2 sets.
Triton’s JV also won, 3-0.
The Trojans open at 1-0 and play at the Plymouth Invitational Saturday morning. Valley, 0-1, travels to Knox tonight.
Boys golf
Triton’s boys team opened the season with a pair of wins over Bremen and Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe LaVille at Woodbury Wednesday.
Led by low medalist Chase Butler’s 40, the Trojans carded a 166 team score ahead of LaVille’s 185 and Bremen’s 198.
While Butler’s round was Triton’s best, the Trojans’ top five all finish within three strokes of one another. Brock Watkins carded 41, Beau Hepler shot 42, and Isaac Wall and Keegan Westafer both shot 43 at Par 36 Woodbury.
Bremen was led by Bryce Sterling’s 44 and Carter Filchak’s 46. LaVille got a 43 from Nate Butler, a 45 from Dakota Figg and a 46 from Nathan Nichols-Peterson.
Triton’s JV easily won both legs of its three-way, meanwhile, shooting a 183 to Bremen’s 228 and LaVille’s 246.
Next up for Triton is a meet with Culver Community today.
