Silver Lake Prepares For Spring Clean-Up
SILVER LAKE — Information related to spring clean-up was discussed at the Silver Lake Town Council meeting Wednesday, April 11. Spring clean-up for Silver Lake residents is scheduled for Saturday, May 12.
Residents are asked to have items put out Friday evening, as pick-up will start at 7 a.m. or earlier Saturday morning. All items need to be easily accessible and placed by the road in a 6 x 6 area. Please call Stafford’s at (574) 269-2492 before May 9 to schedule removal of extra large furniture and appliances. An additional fee may be charged for these items.
The following items are prohibited and will not be removed: paints, oils, televisions, computers, microwaves, lawn waste such as leaves, grass and limbs, tires and anything containing freon, unless the freon has been drained and the item has been tagged by a service professional.
Silver Lake Fire Chief John Conley requested permission to purchase one new set of firefighter gear which consists of a coat, pants, helmet, boots and fire gloves, at a total price of $2,800 plus shipping fees. This request was approved. Council members also approved renewal of the 2018 Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department-Township contract.
The SLVFD will be hosting a dinner and auction fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 12. Dinner includes grilled tenderloin and french fries and will be sold from 4 to 7 p.m. or until sold out. Freewill donations will be accepted. The auction is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Items up for bid include tickets to Holiday World, Shedd Aquarium, Comedy Sportz, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Fort Wayne Zoo, the Fort Wayne Komets, a gift certificate to Sugarland Distilling Company and a Wabash Valley picnic table. A complete list of auction items can be found here.
The SLVFD annual golf outing will be at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 24, at Sycamore Golf Course in North Manchester. This will be a team scramble with hole and door prizes. Cost is $200 per team. Quotes from two companies were submitted for the solid waste bid opening. Stafford’s Solid Waste Services, Inc., Warsaw, submitted a quote in the amount of $43,941, and Advanced Disposal, Claypool, in the amount of $48,864. Council members agreed that there have been no issues with Stafford’s and approved renewal of their contract.
One mowing bid was submitted by A.R.C. Home Services, LLC, Claypool, at the rate of $27.50 per hour. Council members approved acceptance of this bid.
Silver Lake Marshal Jason McGlennen told council members that the lake area was annexed 15 to 16 years ago but addresses were never changed to town addresses. McGlennen requested permission to have the county addresses on those homes changed to town addresses. There was some discussion regarding whether the post office or the town would be in charge of the address changes. Council members requested that McGlennen check into this further and provide updated information at a later time.

- The Silver Lake Lions Club will hold a fish, chicken and tenderloin fry starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, in the Silver Lake conservation building. The event will run until they are sold out. Carry-out only.
- Silver Lake Street and Sewer Superintendent JT Prater informed council members that the koi pond in Memory Park is in need of repair due to holes in the liner. Prater submitted quotes from two companies. Council members approved the quote submitted by Rico’s Landscape, Leesburg, in the amount of $3,665.
- The next regular meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.
