North Webster Chamber Has Many Projects Underway
NORTH WEBSTER — North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce got down to business at its monthly meeting Monday afternoon, April 9, at the Tippecanoe Township Building. Jim Smith, Loose Moose Motorsports, president, ran the meeting.
High on the to do list was the report from the Ambassador Committee. Mindy Scaggs, Re/Max Lakes, reported the committee is looking into setting up business after hours events for members. She has been out visiting local businesses to be sure they sign up for 2018 membership. The committee includes Amanda Meerzo, Mohawk Pier and Martha Stoelting, The Papers.
Repairs for the brackets that hold the seasonal banners was discussed. The board voted to spend $800 on new parts for the brackets so the North Webster Utility Department can proceed to hang them. The cost bothered some of the board but since the new ones are metal, not wood, and presumably will last much longer, the board approved. Sue Ward, Sue’s Creations, had negotiated a drop in price with the vendor as well.
One application has been received for the chamber scholarship of $500. The recipient keeps the chamber sign up to date. The applicant was approved.
Smith noted the annual awards banquet was a success. He brought up the topic of continuing the Christmas dinner as it is such a busy time. After deciding the business after hours events could take its place, the board passed not having the holiday dinner in 2018.
Clayton’s Garden Center was approved to fill the chamber’s pots for the downtown area next to the benches the chamber purchased for use by shoppers. It was decided to ask local businesses to water the plants again this summer.
Committees for the Dixie Day Festival and Artisan Fair reported at Smith’s request. It will be held Saturday, July 28. Food vendor and artisan vendor applications are starting to come in explained Stacey Cox, Pletcher insurance and Ward.
Smith announced the boat show will be held at the Mermaid Festival Grounds Friday, July 27, and Saturday, July 28, in conjunction with Dixie Day. Dino Coverstone, Sock’s Marina is in charge. North Webster Church of the Brethren will host a farmer’s breakfast Saturday, July 28, at the church as a Dixie Day event.
Susan Stump, The Papers, noted the deadline for advertising in the North Webster Community Guide was Monday, April 9. Ad space has increased compared to last year. Stoelting said the articles for the guide have been coming in well. Only a few are still missing.
Tuesday, May 8, is the delivery date for the guide to be received at the chamber office. There will be 3,000 copies to be distributed and 900 additional copies will go out in ‘the PAPER ’ Kosciusko edition for the North Webster area.
All chamber members are welcome to attend meetings. The next one will be held noon Monday, May 14, Tippecanoe Township Building, 102 S. Morton St.
