IBCA To Honor Administrator Allen
INDIANAPOLIS – Jane Allen, a Warsaw graduate and currently the superintendent of Middlebury Community Schools, is one of three school administrators statewide chosen to be honored at the 2018 Indiana Basketball Coaches Association annual clinic.
Allen, along with Steve Cox of Beech Grove City Schools and Steve Kilan of Wood Memorial Junior-Senior High School, will be saluted as Administrators of the Year from the IBCA. The three will be honored at a ceremony on April 20 during the IBCA Clinic at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.
Allen, who is the honoree from District 1, is completing her sixth year as superintendent after working for six years as the district’s assistant superintendent/director of curriculum and instruction.
Allen, during her tenure in charge of a system that includes Northridge High School and seven other schools, has brought all sports in Middlebury Community Schools into compliance with Title IX. She has been a supporter of athletics by making it a priority to begin facility upgrades that have not been done in more than 25 years. She attends many events, both academic and athletic, and is considered a teacher-first administrator.
A 1972 graduate of Warsaw High School and a 1976 graduate of Ball State University, Allen began her career in education in the Indianapolis area by teaching in Perry Township Schools for three years. She then taught one year in Leesburg before moving to Heritage Middle School in Middlebury as a math teacher in 1982. She worked in that role for 12 years, then became principal at York Elementary School in Middlebury from 1994 to 2006.
Allen earned her master’s degree in 1985 from Indiana University and her administrator’s license in 1994 from Indiana University.
While in Perry Township Schools, Allen was an assistant coach for the Southport High School girls basketball team that won the 1980 state championship. She later coached JV girls basketball at Northridge High School and girls basketball at Northridge Middle School.
Allen currently serves on the boards for the Horizon Education Alliance, the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce, the Middlebury Optimist Club and the Boys & Girls Club of Middlebury. She was named winner of the Book of Golden Deeds Award in 2013 from the Crystal Valley Exchange Club of Middlebury.
