Couple’s Hotel Stay Results In Drug Arrest
SYRACUSE — Police responded to complaints at a Syracuse hotel late last month that resulted in the arrests of a man and woman on drug charges.
Alexzandrea Y. Tefft, 24, 2207 Mather Ave., Elkhart, and Jeffery W. Rhodes, 29, 5310 North CR 850E, North Webster, are both charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit, police responded to a complaint of illegal drugs at the Brooke Pointe Inn in Syracuse. An employee told police that staff had observed a diaper bag that contained what they believed to be marijuana. The witness also said there was a smell of burnt marijuana from one of the hotel’s rooms.
Police said when they knocked on the door of the room, Rhoades answered and invited them in. Police reported smelling burnt marijuana inside the room and said Rhoades admitted to smoking the drug inside the room. The report said Rhoades also told police there was marijuana inside a back pack sitting on the bed. He then gave police permission to search the bag, which police say had not only marijuana in it, but also marijuana-related paraphernalia and a bag of white powder, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rhoades told police that Tefft was outside in the parking lot. Police reported that Tefft was standing next to Rhoades’ car. According to the report, a diaper bag was seen inside the car, which Tefft gave police permission to search. More items connected to the two drugs, as well as paraphernalia were found in diaper bag.
