Mary E. Schmal
Mary E. Schmal, 68, Leiters Ford, passed away at 9:37 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at her residence.
On May 22, 1949, Mrs. Schmal was born in Knoxville, Tenn. to Dewey E. and Bonnie J. Stansberry Smith.
She came to Fulton County in February of 1990 from Myrtle Beach, S.C. After a long-distance relationship, Mary and Warren W. “Bill” Schmal were married in the Great Smokey Mountains on July 30, 1990. They have shared 28 years of life’s adventures.
As a housewife, she loved and treasured the time with her family. She also was the bookkeeper and office manager for her family owned automotive garage, Schmal’s Auto Repair of Leiters Ford. She was an avid fan and known for her vocal support of the Indiana Truck Pulling Association. Bill Schmal’s truck was named after her, using her nickname, “Weezer.”
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; two daughters: Jacqueline Sutton and husband Eddie of Georgia; Cassandra Greene of Paulding, Ohio; a son, Shawn W. Schmal and wife Angela of Rochester; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters: Jean Tempio of Columbus, Ohio; Bella Atkins of Acworth, Ga.; Susan Soto of Calhoun, Ga.; two Stansberry brothers: William and Martin, both of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Marilyn Jean Schmal of Lansing, Ill.; several nieces and nephews; and her cherished canine companion, Portia the black and tan dachshund.
Preceding Mary Schmal in death are her parents; a brother, Paul David Smith; step-father, Joseph Kraut; and father-in-law, Donald L. Schmal.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
