Gas Pump Nap Leads To Couple’s Drug Arrest
NORTH WEBSTER — A couple fell asleep in their vehicle while stopped at a gas pump in a North Webster gas station. When they were awakened by police, drugs and cash were found and both were taken to the Kosciusko County Jail.
Madison Marie Stafford, 20, 880 Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony. Michael Darren Miller, 21, 11314 N. East Wawasee Drive, Syracuse, was charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a level 4 felony, and possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony.
According to police, officers were called to the Circle K gas station in North Webster with a report of people in a vehicle asleep while parked at the station’s gas pumps. The report said the couple had been in their vehicle parked there for more than one hour.
Police opened the unlocked door of the vehicle and awoke the driver, who identified himself as Miller. Miller told police he was trying to get off drugs and enter a rehabilitation facility. Miller told police he had used methamphetamine that day and Stafford told police she also uses methamphetamine and said she was currently high on Xanax.
Police said Miller reached into the vehicle’s center console and surrendered a plastic bag that contained a clear/white crystal rock substance that he told them was methamphetamine. Stafford told police the vehicle belonged to her and said the methamphetamine belonged to her and Miller.
Police also found $3,364 in cash, $60.32 in coins and 14 .22 caliber cartridges. Miller told police the money was from the sale of drugs.
