Eugene E. McFarland
Eugene E. McFarland 89, Rochester, passed away at 4:40 a.m., Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Hickory Creek, Rochester.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1928, in Plymouth, the son of Ralph D. and Effie (Schrimsher) McFarland. On Feb. 1, 1948, in Rochester, he married Virginia B. Swango. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2006.
Early in his career, Mr. McFarland worked as delivery person and yardman for Fansler Lumber Company, Rochester. He later worked for Logansport State Hospital as a steam plant fire tender at the power plant for the facilities. He retired from there after fifteen years of service. After retirement, he worked with his son and formed McFarland Electric.
Mr. McFarland had attended the First Assembly of God Churches in Rochester and Logansport, enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his fondness to help others with his catch phrases ”If you need anything call me” or well “Whoop De Doo”
Survivors include his son, Timothy I. and wife Susan McFarland, Rochester; daughter-in-law, Susan K. McFarland-Horn, Rochester; grandchildren, Melissa and husband Brian Weitzel, Rochester; Rebecca and husband Brian Sweany, Rochester; Kimberly and husband Darrin Hunt, Denver; Heather Cox and companion Adam Wathen, Rochester; Michael McFarland Jr. and wife Tamara, Rochester; Matthew and wife Samantha McFarland, Lafayette; fifteen great grandchildren, six great–great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Evelyn McFarland, Rochester; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rev. Michael E. McFarland, brothers, Arden McFarland, Lowell McFarland and sister, Virginia McFarland Todd.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 29, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Matt Anderson officiating. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Plymouth.
