Cynthia J. Thornburg
Cynthia J. “Cyndi” Thornburg, 67, Syracuse, passed away at 6:05 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. She was born Sept. 13, 1950, in Lorain, Ohio, to Alan and Billie (Lyons) Moir.
She graduated in 1969 from Chesterton High School in Chesterton, 1973 from Purdue University in West Lafayette and received her Master’s Degree from Purdue University in Fort Wayne. She was married on June 12, 1971, in Chesterton to Thomas J. “Tom” Thornburg, who survives. She grew up in Ohio and Chesterton before moving to the Syracuse area in 1972 and was currently employed at Wawasee Community School Corporation, where she had taught Language Arts at the Syracuse Jr. High, Milford Jr. High and Wawasee High School for 35 years.
She was a member of the Church of God in North Webster, Phi Mu, Delta Epsilon Chapter at Purdue, Indiana State Teachers Association, Epsilon Sorority, and served on the Syracuse Library Board. At Wawasee High School she was not only a teacher but a Senior Class Sponsor, the voice behind the microphone for many Wawasee athletic events, Thespian Troupe Leader, very involved in the drama club where she directed many musicals, a mentor to many, and a friend to everyone.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, gaga, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters: Erin (Doug) Hartley, Carmel; and Cait (Scott) Thornburton, Chicago; son, Andrew (Morgan) Thornburg, Lafayette; four grandchildren; father, Alan Moir, Bonita Springs, Fla.; two sisters: Martha (Chuck) Cracraft, Naples, Fla.; and Jessica Moir, Houston, Texas; two brothers: Alex Moir, Austin, Texas; and Andy (Laura) Moir, Dublin, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. SR 15, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at the Church of God, 300 N. Main St., North Webster. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the church with Pastor Jeff Boyer officiating. Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse is in charge of arrangements.
