Grace Track: Stuckey Leads Way In Outdoor Opener
MARION – The Grace College track and field team got the outdoor season started over the weekend.
Grace divided its team efforts, competing at Indiana Wesleyan at the Polar Bear Invitational and at the Westmont Collegiate Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Isaac Stuckey kicked off the outdoor season with a school record and national qualifying mark in the hammer throw. Stuckey won the event with a toss of 187-feet-5, hitting the NAIA A standard as well.
Jacob Brown also qualified for NAIA Nationals in the event, placing second at 171-5 and meeting the NAIA mark. William Shafer finished sixth in the hammer as well with a personal record of 147-2.
Caleb Brown ended fourth in the discus at 135-9, and Thomas Hickerson was fourth in the javelin with a PR of 153-4.
Emily Anderson was the runner-up in the javelin (106-6), and Jesse Zvers ran a PR in the 5,000-meter race of 19:30.85.
In California, Martin Schiele placed fifth in the 100 dash at 11.22 seconds, and he was also third in the 200 at 22.30. Schiele hit the NCCAA standard in both events.
Walker Hobbs was runner-up in the hammer throw at 146-10 and fourth in the shot put, Ben Rankin was fifth in the 5,000 (17:13.05), and Cameron Johnson was seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.83).
Grace finished sixth, seventh and eighth in the 800 race thanks to Jonathan Balda, Brady Willard and Brendan Hamilton respectively.
McCalah Mast and Morgan Mower were eighth and ninth in the women’s 800, and Mast was also ninth in the 1,500.
Allison Gatchell finished fifth in the 110 hurdles, and she teamed up with Elizabeth Elliott, Alexis Williams and Kierstyn Worthem to grab fourth in the 4×100 relay at 55.49.
The Lancers’ next outdoor race is the IWU Twilight Invitational on Thursday.
