Spring Classes And Events At The Y
WARSAW — Kosciusko Community YMCA will be starting spring classes on April 9. Classes will run through May 27. Classes for youth will include swim lessons, youth fitness and gymnastics classes for all ages. Registration for spring classes starts March 26 for everyone.
Classes that promote healthy living will include group exercise and Indoor Group Cycling, classes for older adults and water aerobics in both the Warm Water and Lap Pools. Adult classes are included with a Y membership. In addition to classes, the Y is offering several events this spring. See the Welcome Center to sign up.
To support those in our community going through cancer and their caregivers, the Y is hosting “Kathy’s Cancer Conversations,” a volunteer-led cancer support group meeting from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living. On April 9 the group will look into how to find accurate medical information and will meet at the Warsaw Community Library. On May 9, they’ll discuss nutrition for cancer survivors. For more information, contact Stacy Thomas at [email protected] or (574) 269-9622 x216.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based program built on best practices for cancer survivor exercise. The goals of the program are to empower adult cancer survivors to improve functional capacity and to increase their quality of life through an organized program of fitness and strength offered in a supportive, small-group setting. The Y will be starting another LIVESTRONG at the YMCA class this spring. For more information on joining the program, contact Stacy Thomas at [email protected], or (574) 269-9622 x216.
CPR classes will be offered to the community from 9 a.m. to noon April 14, or from 9 a.m. to noon May 5. If CPR certification is needed for a job or if someone wants to be more prepared to handle an emergency, they can sign up for this American Heart Association BLS CPR class. The class will teach adult, child and infant CPR and AED use, but does not include first-aid. This three-hour class provides a two-year certification. There is a cost for participation and certification. For more information, contact Zane Gard at [email protected] or (574) 269-9622 x238.
The Y will be continuing Pickleball from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays, through May 18. This is a great way to be active and meet other members. Pickleball is free to Y Members and open to everyone of all ages. Badminton is also open play from 8 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays until May 1, when it will end at 9 p.m., and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sundays, through May 22.
Please contact the YMCA’s Welcome Center at (574) 269-9622 to find out more information or to sign-up for any of these programs or events.
