New Elkhart HS To Be Part Of NIC
ELKHART – It’s official, but not a surprise.
The Northern Indiana Conference announced Friday that the “new” Elkhart High School will join the league when Elkhart Memorial and Elkhart Central merge prior to the 2020-21 school year.
The Northern Lakes Conference had announced last week that Memorial would no longer be a member of the league after the 2019-20 school year. Memorial has been in the NLC since leaving the NIC in 2000.
Central has always been a member of the NIC. The “original” Elkhart High School was a charter member of the Northern Indiana High School Conference, which was formed in 1927.
The NLC is currently accepting applications for a school to replace Memorial. The NLC currently consists of Warsaw, Wawasee, Plymouth, Goshen, Concord, NorthWood, Northridge and Memorial.
The NIC is currently comprised of 13 schools in Central, South Bend Riley, South Bend Clay, South Bend Washington, South Bend Adams, Mishawaka, Penn, Mishawaka Marian, South Bend St. Joseph, John Glenn, Bremen and New Prairie.
