Daryle L. Hill — UPDATED
Daryle L. Hill, 83, Columbia City, passed away at 2:28 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born on Jan. 18, 1935 in Columbia City, to Ira Raymond and Mildred L “Peg” (Bills) Hill.
He was a lifetime resident of Whitley, Noble, and Kosciusko counties. He graduated in 1953 from North Webster High School and was a United States Army veteran. He attended Murray State University in Murray, Ky., Boise Junior College in Boise, Idaho, and graduated from the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho with a Bachelor’s Degree in education. He received his Master’s Degree from St. Francis in Fort Wayne, and attended Ball State and St. Francis Universities working on his Ph.D.
On March 21, 1970 in Columbia City, he was wed to Marlene K. Leedy, who survives. He retired after 30 years as the owner and operator of Hills Trucking Company and drove for Starfleet in Middlebury. He formerly taught for 12 years in Idaho, Warsaw, Etna Troy, Wolf Lake, and Concord Schools.
He was a member of American Legion Post 253 in North Webster and was a 32th Degree Mason in Fort Wayne. He formerly attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Oswego and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Ligonier.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Penny Groves, Leesburg; son, Steve Hill, Wheatfiled; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a brother, Tom Hill, Pierceton.
He was preceded by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and Jim Hill.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 16, at Owen Family Funeral Home, St Rd. 13 & CR 500N, North Webster. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, in the funeral home with Pastor Greg Hardin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Pierceton.
