Butler Grad Among Those Dead In New York Helicopter Accident
NEW YORK — One of the people killed in a the crash of a sightseeing helicopter in New York City on Sunday was a graduate of Butler University.
Daniel Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration from Butler in 2006, according to his LinkdIn account and a Butler spokeswoman.
Thompson was among five people killed Sunday when a sightseeing helicopter crashed in New York City’s East Harbor.
The crash may have been caused by a passenger’s bag that inadvertently hit the emergency fuel shutoff button, USA Today reported.
The Liberty Helicopter Tours helicopter crashed and flipped upside down in the water. The pilot, Richard Vance, was the only survivor.
Thompson attended Butler from 2002 to 2006, said Rachel Stern, Butler’s director of strategic communications.
Thompson worked as a marketing intern for Clowes Memorial Hall in 2006-2007 before he moved to New York in 2008, according to LinkedIn.
