Robert A. ‘Bob’ Carlson — UPDATED
Robert A. “Bob” Carlson, 68, Syracuse, passed away at 1:06 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2018, at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart. He was born Aug. 7, 1949, in Goshen, to Max H. and Ruth E. “Eloise” (Richhart) Carlson.
He graduated in 1967 from Syracuse High School, attended Ball State University in Muncie, and Emporia State Teacher’s College in Emporia, Kan. He was a United States Army veteran and was married on Jan. 8, 1972, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to Lorena B. “Rena” Smith, who survives. He was the owner and operator of Maxwelton Golf Club since 1986 where he had been a Golf Pro since 1975. He lived in the Syracuse area most of his life except for 5 years where he resided in Colorado and Kansas.
He formerly attended the Grace Lutheran Church in Syracuse. He was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations, donating his time and golf course for many local charities and fundraisers.
He is survived by his wife, Rena Carlson, Syracuse; daughter, Brandee M. (Matthew) Foley, Fishers; two grandchildren: Aidan and Bridget Foley; brother, Steven (Ruth) Carlson, Bristol.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Chris Lantz of LaGrange First United Methodist Church officiating.
