INDIANAPOLIS — Broadway megahit “Hamilton” will soon be coming to the Circle City.
When Broadway In Indianapolis tweeted out the 2018-2019 slate of shows Tuesday morning, it also broke the news that “Hamilton: An American Musical” will be part of its 2019-20 season. The organization presents national touring shows at Old National Centre or Clowes Memorial Hall.
“Hamilton” is a multiple Tony-award-winning musical that blends hip-hop and the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton. After opening in 2015, it won 11 Tony awards in 2016, including the award for “Best Musical.” The show traveling to Indianapolis will be part of the North American touring production, said Matthew Porter, director of public relations with Broadway Across America.
No official dates or locations have been announced for “Hamilton,” but the time means it could be scheduled for anywhere between September 2019 or as late as April 2020.
So what can you do now to get tickets?
Buy a five-show package for the 2018-2019 season — including “Waitress,” “School of Rock” and “The Lion King” — which is on sale now.
Becoming a season subscriber now means that you can be a current subscriber next year, when the “Hamilton” dates are announced, Porter said. That way, you can also keep your seats.
“You don’t have to rush or be anxious about worrying about missing out on ‘Hamilton’ tickets or any of the season tickets for your package,” Porter said.
“One of the benefits of being a season ticket holder is you get to keep your same great seats year after year after year.”
Single tickets to shows usually go on sale about four to six weeks before the performances start, Porter said.
People are already flocking to the phones. As of Tuesday morning, Broadway in Indianapolis’ website noted that the call center was so busy that wait times were more than 20 minutes.
“There are also times you may experience a fast busy signal and may need to try again at a later time,” the notice stated.
The instructions advised customers to manage their accounts online. Tickets can be purchased by visiting indianapolis.broadway.com or calling 800-793-7469.
