WARSAW — A former Zimmer Biomet employee was sentenced today in Kosciusko Circuit Court for theft from his workplace.
Christopher Allen Landel, 25, 1321 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, was charged with theft, a level 6 felony.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on March 31, 2017, officers with the Warsaw Police Department spoke with a Zimmer Biomet employee who said that Landel had been stealing phones and selling them.
Landel admitted to stealing between 20 to 30 company iPhones and selling them to Genesis Phone Repair.
Officers found that Landel had sold 93 phones between June 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017, receiving $16,900 from the sales. Twenty-seven of those phones were Zimmer Biomet phones.
Defense attorney Greg Miller said that Landel has a very minimal criminal history, but that he realizes that this mistake has ruined his career.
“I apologize to the state, community and Zimmer Biomet,” Landel said.
Judge Michael Reed gave Landel a one year suspended sentence, sentencing him to spend four weekends at the Kosciusko County Jail and requiring him to pay $6,000 in restitution to Zimmer Biomet.
