Norman L. Oestermyer
Norman L. Oestermyer 89, Dugger, and formerly of Rochester, passed away at 11:59 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at his daughter’s residence in Dugger.
He was born on Oct. 2, 1928, in LaPorte, the son of Alfred and Evelyn (Butler) Oestermyer. He served with the United States Army during World War II. On Sept. 11, 1948, in LaPorte, he married Jeanette Hakes. She preceded him in death on April 16, 2016.
Mr. Oestermyer had been a welder for Modien Manufacturing in LaPorte. He had also lived in Roswell, N.M. for over fourteen years. He was a member of the Cross Church, Rochester, and had been an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts in LaPorte, Rocheste, and in Roswell, N.M. serving on the Honor Guard at each Post. In his spare time he enjoyed boating, fishing, having coffee with his buddies and socializing with friends.
Survivors include his daughter, Deborah and husband Richard A. Rennier, Dugger; step grandchildren: Richard Rennier, Wanatah; Lisa Rennier, Portage; brother, Gene and wife Marcie Oestermyer, Lubbock, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Vincent Oestermyer and sister, Virginia Monroe.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester. Friends may visit from 10: a.m. to noon, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, where military graveside services will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to a Veterans Organization of your choice.
