Indianapolis Has 160K Potholes
INDIANAPOLIS — On Tuesday, DPW Director Dan Parker said crews filled 400 requests, but actually filled 8,000 potholes.
If you divide 8,000 by 400, that would mean each pot hole request contains 20 pot holes, which isn’t surprising since each block can be riddled with the tire-busting craters. On Monday, the city’s Pothole Viewer site showed more than 8,000 requests.
If each requested area has the average of 20 potholes, that would mean Indianapolis has 160,000 potholes.
Crews continue their pothole blitz Tuesday and say they used 350 tons of asphalt on Monday. Click here to see which areas crews will be working on Tuesday.
Tuesday will also include what’s called strip patching.
“The traffic is going to be a little bit more backed up in those areas. We’re going to be taking off 9 inches of pavement. We’re going to be sealing the base, and then we’re going to be putting asphalt back down. This is where it is chuck hole, after chuck hole, after chuck hole that’s been filled and it could be as bumpy being filled as it is having holes in the street,” Parker said.
There are concerns about how weather may impact the rest of the week.
“We need dry weather to put the hot mix down. We think we might be able to work Wednesday if it is not a downpour, but Thursday looks questionable,” Parker said.
