Solid Waste Board Discusses Amnesty Period For Electronics
WARSAW—Business was brief but heavily discussed at the Kosciusko Solid Waste Management District board meeting on Feb. 20.
The board welcomed attorney Scott Reust to the meeting. Reust is planning on attending further board meetings.
KC Recycling Depot director Tom Ganser discussed the three-month amnesty period for TV turn-ins that started in April 2017 and ended in June. During that time, the Depot collected 166,222 pounds of electronics.
Due to last year’s success, the board is looking into having another amnesty period this year. Official dates have not been confirmed, but the board is considering another three-month amnesty period from May to July 2018.
The board is also looking into marketing strategies for better informing the public on the amnesty period.
To prepare for the amnesty period blitz, the board approved hiring another employee to work either full or part-time. The employee’s pay would be about $10 an hour.
The board also discussed looking into retirement plan options for Depot employees, stating that there are benefits there that draw in potential employees.
Ganser also asked permission to purchase two used vehicles for the Depot’s use. The board approved this.
