Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Provides 2017 Year End Statistics
KOSCIUSKO — Sheriff Rocky Goshert submitted the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department 2017 year end statistics report, at the Feb. 20 Kosciusko County commissioners meeting.
The year end statistics report contains information regarding department activity, such as calls for service, crash reports, warrants, citations and jail bookings. Some of the 2017 activity provided includes:
- Crash Reports: 1,613, down from 1,639 in 2016.
- Bookings: 3,840, up from 3,497 in 2016.
- Citations: 1,174, down from 1,854 in 2016.
- Active Sex Offenders Registered: 104, down from 114 in 2016.
The jail population was up last year with the daily average of inmates at 285. The daily average of inmates in 2016 was 242. The 2017 jail bookings totaled 3,840, with 3,960 inmates being released.
The top ten charges for 2017 are as follows:
- Failure to appear – 599
- Drug related – 535
- OWI – 344
- Theft/burglary/robbery – 306
- Parole/probation violation – 291
- Battery – 261
- Traffic offenses – 260
- Alcohol involving a minor – 37
- Public intoxication – 33
- Check deception – 25
The most popular drug arrest in Kosciusko County remains marijuana with 176 charges. Meth charges were drastically lower with 85 charges last year versus 209 charges in 2016. Narcotic drug charges were also down to 26 last year from 116 in 2016.
The Kosciusko County FACT Team investigated 23 vehicle accidents in 2017. As a result of those accidents, there were 14 fatalities. Of the fatality accidents, 5 of them involved alcohol or drugs.
