Winona Lake Man Arrested For Stealing Cargo Trailer And Reselling It
WINONA LAKE—A Winona Lake man was arrested for stealing a cargo trailer from the Alpine West Storage area and selling it to an individual.
Charles Laustin Kreider, 28, 1202 Wooster Rd. 60, Winona Lake, is being charged with two counts of burglary, a level 5 felony; and two counts of auto theft, a level 6 felony.
On Jan. 8, officers spoke with an individual who said that on Jan. 2, an unknown subject entered the fenced in area at Alpine West storage. The subject cut the wires, stealing seven video cameras valued at $1,000.
On Jan. 28, officers spoke with a second individual who said his 2010 UTD cargo trailer was stolen from the storage lot. The trailer contained a riding mower, Chevrolet transmission and other items.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers viewed surveillance video and learned that the trailer was also stolen on Jan. 2.
On Jan. 28, officers spoke with a third individual who said that his 2014 Stealth cargo trailer was stolen from the storage lot. Officers learned that it was stolen on Jan. 8.
Officers located the 2014 Stealth cargo trailer at a residence in Tippecanoe. The individual with the trailer said that he had purchased it from Kreider.
Officers spoke with Kreider, who said that he and a female individual stole the trailer and sold it. Kreider also said that he and two male subjects went to Alpine West on Jan. 2.
One of the male subjects, Donald Tilley, cut the wires and stole the video cameras. Tilley and the other male subject also stole the 2010 UTD cargo trailer, taking it to Kentucky and selling it for $1,100. Kreider was told that he was to receive $500 of that money.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, officers obtained a photograph of Tilley from Kentucky State Police. They confirmed that Tilley is the same person in the surveillance footage obtained from Alpine West Storage.
Kreider was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Feb. 6, with a $6,117 surety and cash bond.
