Melvin L. Weaver — UPDATED
Melvin L. “Mel” Weaver, 91, Syracuse, passed away at 4:50 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Warsaw to Russell and Mary Jane (Polk) Weaver.
He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area, attended Syracuse Public Schools and took welding classes in Columbia City. He was married on April 18, 1954 in Syracuse to Ethel M. Denton who survives. He was a former bus driver for Wawasee Community School Corporation for 31 years and worked for Indiana Restaurant in Warsaw for 20 years. He was the former owner and operator of Weavers Duck Farms for 27 years and Weavers Welding in Syracuse for many years.
He was a member of the Church of God in Syracuse and former member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter: Janet (Ken) Davies, Fort Wayne; two sons: Gary (Marsha) Weaver, North Webster; and Kenneth (Carol) Weaver, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and nine step great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Weaver.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, in the funeral home with Pastors Stan Owen and Brad Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
