Valley Basketball: Vikings Top Zebras
AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team needed a win.
Cam Parker made sure that the Vikings got one on Saturday afternoon.
Parker canned a game-high 20 points to lead the hosts past Rochester 42-32 in a Three Rivers Conference contest.
Parker hit 6-10 shots from the field, including 4-6 from distance, as the Vikings picked up their first league win and also snapped a 9-game losing streak in the process.
Valley led 8-2 after the opening period as the Zebras made just 1-8 shot attempts in the first frame. Rochester rallied to take an 18-15 halftime lead. The Vikings responded in a big way in the pivotal third quarter by outscoring Rochester 14-4 to take a 29-22 lead. Valley hit 5-10 shots in the key third quarter, while the Zebras were just 2-13.
Wes Melanson scored eight points and Alex Morrison had five points and seven rebounds for Valley. Parker had six rebounds.
Valley shot 13-36 overall from the field, including 6-18 from 3-point range. The Vikings were 10-19 from the free throw line.
Rochester finished 14-49 from the field overall and were 3-14 from deep. The Zebras were an abysmal 1-9 from the charity stripe.
Valley improves to 3-14 overall and goes to 1-6 in TRC play. Rochester falls to 9-8 and 2-4.
Valley plays at Maconaquah and Rochester hosts Glenn Tuesday night.
