LCA Basketball: Cougars Clip Smith Academy
WINONA LAKE – The Lakeland Christian Academy boys basketball team picked up a 54-48 home win over Fort Wayne Smith Academy Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars, who beat Smith Academy for the first time in four meetings, snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.
LCA led 12-6 after the opening period and 21-18 at halftime. The hosts used a 19-10 scoring edge in the third quarter to take a 12-point lead.
Josh McDaniel tallied 16 points to lead the way for the winners.
Landon Twombly had eight points and six rebounds and Noah Twombly six points and five rebounds for LCA. Jeremy Gross grabbed four rebounds.
Jake Harmon had seven points to go with six assists and four rebounds for the Cougars. Harmon also moved into second place all-time in 3-pointers made with his 118th. Teammate McDaniel holds the program mark.
LCA won the junior varsity game 35-28. Trae Harris led the winners with 12 points.
LCA, now 8-11, plays at South Bend Career Academy Friday night. Smith Academy (7-10) hosts Hamilton Tuesday night.
