Warsaw Man Sentenced For Battery That Caused Serious Injury To A Female Victim
WARSAW — Christopher Alan Gressley, Warsaw, was sentenced this morning, Feb. 1, after he battered a female, causing an orbital socket fracture and a nasal fracture. The sentencing occured in Kosciusko County Superior Court with Judge David Cates presiding.
On Sept. 8, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a battery complaint. The female victim had blood on her face, shirt and pants. She advised that Gressley and she were driving in the country and drinking alcohol when they got into a physical confrontation.
According to the victim, Gressley hit her in the face several times so she attempted to exit the vehicle. Gressley grabbed her hair, pulled her back into the vehicle and punched her face. Gressley then drove the victim to his mother’s house where she called the police.
A portable breath test showed Gressley had a BAC of .152 percent. The female victim was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for her injuries. She suffered from an orbital socket fracture and a nasal fracture.
Attorney Jay Rigdon noted that Gressley’s “choices” were aggravated by substance and alcohol abuse issues.
Gressley addressed the court during his sentencing and apologized for the crime. “To the victim, I feel like a piece of trash for what I did. It haunts me everyday.”
Cates noted Gressley’s extensive criminal history before handing out his sentence. Gressley was ordered to serve four years at the Indiana Department of Corrections for domestic battery, a level 5 felony, and a one year suspended sentence to be served on probation for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a class A misdemeanor.
Gressley is to have no contact with the victim of the battery and will not be able to own a firearm. His driving privialges will also be suspended for six months.
