James Allen Thomas
James “Jim” Allen Thomas, 76, Warsaw, died at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at his residence where he had been in declining health. On Aug. 8, 1941, in Warsaw, he was born to Wayne Thomas and Doris (Koontz) Thomas and had lived in the Atwood community all of his life.
On Dec. 13, 1986, in Bourbon, he married Melodie A. Bolinger and together they had shared the past 31 years. Thomas had been a Farmer, and operated a Milk Route for many years; he had also worked for Coursey Construction hauling asphalt, J & M Gravel, Etna Green; and Clunette Elevator hauling Grain.
Thomas was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Atwood and a graduate of Atwood High School with the class of 1960 where he had played Basketball for the Greyhounds. Thomas served on the Atwood Fire Department and had served as Captain. He also raised and showed the breed of Hampshire and Southdown sheep for many years. Thomas was a Indiana University fan thru and thru, and loved Bob Knight.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Melodie Thomas, Warsaw; children: Kelly Wogoman (Tom) Warsaw; Brian Thomas (Wendy) Indianapolis; Amy (Scott) Curtis (Culver); Alan Stackhouse, Burket; five grandchildren: Kesley, Josh and Seth Wogoman; Vance and Cameron Curtis; sister, Sue Thomas-Hoffman, Atwood; brother, Bill Thomas (Becky) Atwood; life-long friend, Jim Irwin, Atwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 105 Hovey Street, Atwood. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 105 Hovey Street, Atwood, with Rev. Mike Beesley of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Stoney Point Cemetery, Atwood.
