NorthWood Wrestling: Six Panthers Advance To Regional
ELKHART — Jake Lone won a sectional title at 170 pounds, and the NorthWood wrestling team collected six total regional berths on the way to a sixth-place finish at the Elkhart Memorial Sectional Saturday.
Northridge won the team title with a 209 score followed by Jimtown’s 197.5 and Goshen’s 190.5 tally, while the Panthers put up 128.5 points to finish half a point behind Northern Lakes Conference-rival Concord in the final team standings.
Sophomore Lone moved to 31-3 with his championship win over Northridge’s Cade Freel at 170, and senior Jake Chupp also made the finals for NorthWood at 145 before falling short versus Northridge’s Owen Eveler. Lane Flowers placed fourth at 132, and fellow senior Hunter Warren placed third at 138 as the Panthers advanced wrestlers in three straight weight classes. Sophomore Jaden Miller was third at 160, and senior Cannon Yates finished fourth in the heavyweight standings to move onto next Saturday’s Goshen Regional, where they’ll vie for another top four finish and a berth at the New Haven Semi-state Feb. 10.
