Elkhart Man Arrested On Cocaine, Meth Charges
WARSAW — An Elkhart man has been arrested on cocaine and meth charges following a Dec. 22, 2017, investigation.
Clayton Theodore Morgan, 41, 51556 CR 9, Elkhart, was arrested Wednesday evening, Jan. 24, on charges of dealing in cocaine, more than 10 grams, a level 2 felony; possession of cocaine, a level 4 felony; dealing in methamphetamine, a level 2 felony; and possession of methamphetamine, a level 4 felony. He is being held on $25,250 surety and cash bond.
On Dec. 22, Warsaw Police received information Morgan and Dakotah Shepherd were in possession of crystal methamphetamine at Shepherd’s residence. Surveillance of the residence was conducted and authorities observed Shepherd and another individual leave the home in a gold Chevrolet Impala that was improperly registered. A traffic stop was initiated. Shepherd was a passenger in the vehicle. A K-9 officer was used to conduct an outer air search of the vehicle and the canine alerted to drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found methamphetamine paraphernalia. The paraphernalia field tested positive for methamphetamine.
A search warrant for Shepherd’s residence was executed, where they located Morgan. He was arrested at that time on a St. Joe County warrant. During a search of Morgan, authorities found a glass smoking pipe, which field tested positive for cocaine and $1,671 in cash.
A search of the living room found $385 in cash, two bags with one containing a white substance that field tested positive for cocaine and weighed 15.9 grams, and the second bag containing a crystal substance, that field tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing 16.6 grams. Morgan admitted those items belonged to him. A search of a bedroom found a containing weighting 10.4 grams containing a crystal substance, that did not test positive for methamphetamine; a plastic bag containing a crystal substance, weighing .3 grams, that tested positive for meth; five glass smoking devices; and numerous drug paraphernalia.
Morgan admitted to police the money found in his possession was from him selling cocaine and methamphetamine. He also provided his cellphone to officers, who were able to access and find further evidence of dealing and possession of illegal drugs.
