Woman Arrested For Using Another Person’s Identification
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — A Pierceton woman was arrested after using another person’s identification.
Amber Nicole Bontrager, 38, who was booked with an address of 33 Winchester Trail, Goshen, with court documents showing an address of 308 S. Third St., Pierceton, has been charged with identity deception, a level 6 felony.
Court documents report Aug. 22 Winona Lake Police stopped a Chevrolet Ventura for speeding. The driver of the vehicle reported she did not have her identification or driver’s license in her possession and gave police the identification of another female. She also provided her date of birth and Social Security number, which matched that of the name she gave police. The driver, who was noted as having tattoos on the left side of her face and arms, was cited for speeding and an expired registration plate.
Authorities were notified Oct. 12 by the individual cited by police on that date. The female told authorities she had not been in Winona Lake on that date and believed her former roommate, Bontrager, had used her identifying information. When the victim spoke with police about the vehicle driven on that date, she stated it belonged to Bontrager and stated Bontrager had tattoos on her face and arms.
Police were able to obtain a driver’s license photograph of Bontrager and compared it to the officer’s body cam during the traffic stop. Authorities were able to identify the driver as Bontrager and it was Bontrager who gave police the false name and identifying information of the victim without her consent.
Bontrager is being held on $5,750 surety and cash bond.
