ELKHART — A travel advisory has been issued for Elkhart County. The roads are becoming extremely icy and numerous reports of crashes and slide-offs have been occurring within Elkhart County.
This morning, 22 vehicle crashes have been reported, 14 of these crashes have occurred between 8 and 10 a.m., and four of these crashes have resulted in injuries. These crashes are occurring at normal speeds and motorists should reduce their speeds to adjust to the hazardous road conditions.
Sheriff’s Deputies worked numerous crashes on the US 20 bypass. The roadway was closed between SR 19 and CR 17 to allow officers to get it cleared up and for State Highway to get abrasives down. The US 20 bypass is now opened back up, however, many of the county roads remain icy.
US 6 east of SR 15: Sheriff’s Deputies are working crashes in this area. The duration of the closure is unknown at this time, and motorists should use an alternate route.
