Wawasee Basketball: Warriors Get On Track
SYRACUSE – Wawasee ended a six-game losing streak Tuesday night after a 45-34 boys basketball win against Bethany Christian.
Its first win since the calendar turned over to 2018, Wawasee broke 40 points for the first time since Jan. 2 and got some scoring from a couple of different faces. Ryan Edington hit three from downtown and finished with 11 points and Jairus Boyer led the squad with 12 points, the two adding in nine rebounds.
Jacob Hand just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, and added three assists and a steal in a full 32 minutes.
Wawasee took a 27-18 lead into the halftime break, then came out in the third quarter and held the Bruins to just four points in the third quarter while stretching out its lead to 16 points at 38-22.
The Warriors (4-10) hadn’t won since a win over Knox in the morning session of its Wawasee Tournament on Dec. 29, and had averaged just 33.6 points per game during that losing streak.
Bethany (3-10) got 15 points from Lucas Brownsberger-Keyes and 13 points from Seth Brenneman on a combined 10-21 shooting, but the remainder of the roster were just 2-6 from the floor.
Wawasee drubbed the Bruins in the JV game 57-8.
The Warriors will stay at home for a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday against Concord and Lakeland.
