Warsaw Basketball: Ladies Clip Concord
WARSAW – A strong second-half performance made it a happy Senior Night for the Warsaw girls basketball team Saturday.
The hosts roared back in the final 16 minutes to roll past Concord 46-29 in a Northern Lakes Conference contest in the Tiger Den.
Warsaw, which has now beaten Concord 41 straight times in girls hoops, trailed 17-16 at halftime. The vastly-improved Minutemen shot 7-11 from the field in the opening half en route to the lead.
The Tigers outscored their guests 15-8 in the third quarter to take the lead and then ended the contest with a 15-4 scoring margin in the final frame to pull away to the convincing league win. The hosts shot 11-21 from the field in the final half, while Concord was just 3-16.
Maddie Ryman led a balanced offensive attack for the Tigers with 11 points. She drained a trio of treys for the winners.
Kaylee Patton and Brielle Harrison each had seven points for coach Lenny Krebs’ squad. Emma Bohnenkamper and Kacy Bragg both added five points. Halle Shipp and Kennedy Patton each scored four points and Miah Holsclaw had three for the winners.
Bragg led the team with five rebounds and Bohnenkamper dished out seven assists.
Warsaw, which was coming off a 48-47 overtime loss to Class 4-A No. 4 and defending state champion Homestead on Tuesday night, now leads the all-time series versus Concord 49-2.
The Tigers improve to 13-8 overall and move to 4-2 in the NLC. Warsaw sits in third place in the league standings. Northridge has clinched at least a share of its third straight NLC title at 6-0 after beating Elkhart Memorial 44-34 on Friday night. NorthWood is in second place at 5-1 after edging Goshen 30-28 Saturday night.
Warsaw hosts NorthWood Thursday night in its final NLC game.
Warsaw honored seniors Kennedy Patton, Emma Bohnenkamper and Miah Holsclaw Saturday night.
Sydney Simon scored 10 points to lead Concord, which falls to 9-11 overall and 1-5 in the NLC.
Warsaw won the junior varsity game by a 53-15 final. Kendall Wayne had 16 points and Kensie Ryman 15 to pace Warsaw.
Warsaw hosts NorthWood Thursday night in the NLC and regular season finale. The Tigers will then play in the Class 4-A Concord Sectional the week of Jan. 29. The sectional draw for the girls state tournament in set for Jan. 21.
Concord plays at Prairie Heights Tuesday night.
