North Webster Library News
NORTH WEBSTER — When the weather is bitterly cold, most of us don’t like to venture outside. Can you imagine running a 1,150-mile dog sled race in brutal temperatures across Alaska? Native Hoosier and sled dog musher Karen Land has run the grueling Alaskan Iditarod Sled Dog race on three different occasions and will share her experiences at North Webster Community Public Library 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. With a special appearance by her sled dog Noggin, this program is free and will appeal to adults and youth of all ages. So mark your calendar and bring the family to meet Noggin and learn about the Alaskan Iditarod.
Spend a cold afternoon at the movies 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 when the library shows the 1954 comedy about a newlywed couple who buys a new travel trailer and spends a year traveling the U.S. The movie stars an iconic redheaded comedienne and her Cuban-born husband. Feel free to bring snacks to munch while enjoying the show.
The Adult Winter Reading Contest starts Feb. 1 and runs through March 15. Participants will have fun reading books and playing the Candy Land game as they compete to win the grand prize. The more books a player reads, the better their chances of winning. Details and contest rules are available at the circulation. The winner will be announced March 19.
The love of reading and libraries begins at a young age. Introduce your child to your local library by celebrating the international Take Your Child to the Library Day Saturday, Feb. 3. North Webster Library will have special activities all day to highlight the importance of libraries in the lives and education of children. The Youth Department will have Love Your Library crafts to make and take home, a photo booth and postcards for kids to commemorate their library visit and balloon animal and book prize giveaways throughout the day. Spend some quality time with your child and enjoy a memorable day at the library.
