USGS Confirms Meteor Lit Up Night Skies Over Michigan Tuesday
DETROIT — The United States Geological Survey confirmed it was a meteor that lit up the skies over southern Michigan Tuesday evening.
The meteor shook the ground shortly after 8 p.m., causing the equivalent of a 2.0-magnitude earthquake.
Residents near Detroit say they saw the meteor come crashing to earth Tuesday evening.
Several people posted videos of the flashing light in the sky on social media. The videos came from security cameras at homes and businesses, as well as vehicle dashcams.
The National Weather Service tweeted around 9:30 p.m. that the event was a likely meteor.
