Bi-County Tourney Set To Tip Tuesday
The battle for bragging rights in the annual TCU Bi-County Tournament tips-off Tuesday night.
The long running eight-team event on both the boys and girls sides promises its fair share of outstanding hoops action as teams from both Marshall and St. Joseph Counties look to claim a coveted championship.
Triton will open tournament play Tuesday night with a first-round girls/boys doubleheader at Bremen.
The Triton ladies defeated Bremen 23-20 back on Nov. 14 at Triton. Coach Adam Heckaman’s squad stands at 9-10 on the season after posing a 54-10 conference win at Culver Friday night.
The Triton boys team takes a 4-5 mark into first-round play versus the Lions. The Trojans have won four of their last six games after starting 0-3 with losses to Oregon-Davis, Plymouth and NorthWood to start the season. Triton is coming off a 42-33 league loss at Culver Friday night.
The girls side of the tourney features a trio of teams with winning records, including defending champion John Glenn. The Falcons, who are ranked No. 19 in Class 3-A, are 14-5. Glenn topped Bremen 39-23 in the title game last year.
The boys side of the tourney features favorite LaVille looking to earn three more home games with the tourney semifinals and title games in Lakeville. The Lancers host Culver Tuesday night in first-round play. The Lancers, who are coached by former Plymouth star Michael Edison, are 12-0 and ranked No. 7 in Class 2-A.
The boys portion of the tourney also includes Glenn at 9-3 and Argos, which has won five of its last six games, at 8-3.
New Prairie is the defending champ on the boys side as the Cougars beat Bremen 47-32 in the championship game in 2017.
The girls semifinal games are set for Thursday evening at LaVille with the boys semis scheduled for Friday night. The pair of title games will be contested Saturday night at LaVille.
