Doyle Dee Butler — UPDATED
Doyle Dee Butler, 86, Syracuse, joined his beloved wife Jo at 7:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. He passed away at his daughter’s home in Nashville. He was born April 13, 1931, in Lacona, Iowa to Kenneth John and Flossie (Williams) Butler.
He graduated in 1948 from Lacona High School in Lacona, Iowa and was married on Oct. 4, 1969, in Syracuse to Josephine H. “Jo” (Hartshorne) Dieterly, who preceded him on Aug. 4, 2017. He was a former Dean’s Milk Distributor for many years, worked at Sroufe Manufacturing in Ligonier, and Commodore Homes in Syracuse. He moved to the Syracuse area in 1956 from North Dakota.
He was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Syracuse. He was an avid bowler & golfer, enjoyed Wawasee High School sports, and working in his garden.
He is survived by five daughters: Sheryl (Roger) Stiver, Nashville; Kathleen (Leroy) Thorn, Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; Deborah (David) Heeter, Muncie; Diane Hill, Indianapolis; Barbara (Trenton) Harris, Bothell, Wash.; four sons: David (Susie) Butler, Syracuse; Bradley (Linda) Butler, Indianapolis; Donald (Andrea) Dieterly, Simpsonville, S.C.; Daniel (MaryAnn) Dieterly, Sedalia, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters: Wanda Johnson, Phoenix, Ariz.; Wyona Shupe and Annie Rankin, Lacona, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson: Keegan Stiver; and three brothers: Wendell, Howard and Walter Butler.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long Dr., Syracuse, with Pastor Jim Tormey officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
