WARSAW — Dana Hewitt, code enforcement inspector for the city of Warsaw, wishes to remind citizens about several municipal codes regarding those living and working in Warsaw through the winter months.
Chapter 70-1 states that the occupants or owners of a building or lot within the city, fronting or bordering upon any street, shall clean the sidewalks in front of such building or lot of snow or ice before the hour of 9 a.m. each day. Safety concern is for the children going to and from school, mail carriers and others that use the sidewalks on a daily basis, sidewalks that have not been cleared become hazardous to walk on
Chapter 74-205 states that leaving a vehicle parked on a city street, unattended and unmoved for a period of 72 hours or more are subject to a fine. Concern is for those vehicles that have not moved after a snowfall, they could accumulate a large amount of snow on and around the vehicle, making the removal of snow by the street department difficult. The snow around a vehicle could also diminish the width of the road causing vehicles to go have to travel into oncoming traffic to get around it.
