Triton Basketball: Lady Trojans Earn HNAC Win
BOURBON — The Triton girls basketball team used a 20-6 second quarter to seize a 30-16 halftime lead on the way to a 50-34 Hoosier North Athletic Conference win over Winamac Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans (8-10, 4-1 HNAC) got a one-two punch from Whytnie Miller and Hannah Wanemacher with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Nicole Sechrist finished with seven points, four steals, four assists and three blocked shots for Triton. Charlotte Morris also chipped in seven points in the start.
Laini Joseph scored a game-high 16 points for the Warriors (10-7, 1-3 HNAC), who were held to 10-of-39 (25.6 percent) shooting from the floor in their second straight loss.
Triton finished with a narrow 26-24 rebounding advantage but scored 12 second-chance points on seven offensive rebounds in the win.
The Trojans sit behind 4-0 Knox in the HNAC standings, while Winamac sits ahead of 1-4 Caston and 0-5 Culver. North Judson-San Pierre remains unbeaten in the conference at 2-0 behind Knox.
Triton plays another league game at Culver Friday night, in a boys/ girls doubleheader with the girls scheduled for a 6 p.m. start. Winamac plays at Kouts Thursday night at 8 p.m.
