LCA Sports Wrap: Jan. 9
Boys Basketball
LCA achieved a program milestone Tuesday night in its 60-54 home win over North Miami.
In its six years as an IHSAA member school, LCA had never beaten a Class 2-A school until the victory over the Warriors. It was just the seventh win over an IHSAA member school for LCA in that span, three of those wins coming this year including wins over Caston and Hamilton.
Jake Harmon and Josh McDaniel both were red hot from the floor, combining to hit seven three’s and total 19 points each. Harmon had seven of his total in the fourth quarter and McDaniel added four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Landon Twombly added seven points, seven rebounds and two assists while Braxton Keller was key with seven points.
Tristan Working and Malachi Sanderson each finished with 13 points for the Warriors.
North Miami took the JV game in a 44-29 final over LCA.
LCA moves to 5-7 overall with its third crack at South Bend Trinity set for Saturday night. Trinity beat LCA in both meetings earlier this season at the Bethany and LCA tournaments.
Girls Basketball
After a slow start, LCA’s girls hoops team crushed Cornerstone Christian 69-17.
Leading just 8-2 after the first quarter, LCA went on a 25-3 binge in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into the break.
Hope Fancil paced the Cougars with 25 points and five rebounds. Anna Reimink added 14 points and six steals, Tori Calizo finished with 11 points and three steals and Abigail Fishel had four points, four rebounds and three steals.
LCA improves to 9-7 overall and will hit the road again Thursday for a date at Mishawaka Christian.
