Valley Basketball: Falcons Rally To Top Vikings
AKRON – The free throw line was worth a lot to John Glenn Thursday night.
The visiting Falcons used big points from the charity stripe in the final quarter to rally for a 56-51 win over Tippecanoe Valley in a non-conference boys basketball contest.
Glenn outscored the hosts 12-2 in the fourth period by hitting 8-14 from the line. The Vikings, who led 49-44 entering the final stanza, made just 1-8 shots from the field in the quarter. The Falcons outscored the hosts 12-0 over the final six minutes of the contest.
The Falcons hit 15-26 tries from the line on the night, while Valley finished 7-8 from the stripe.
Valley led 13-9 after the opening frame before the Falcons took a 33-31 halftime advantage.
Parkur Dalrymple paced the Vikings with 16 points.
Wes Melanson had 16 points and Tanner Trippiedi 10 points and six rebounds for Valley.
Valley shot 18-43 overall from the field, including 8-20 from 3-point range.
Mike Machnic led Glenn with 20 points and Zac Mago scored nine for the winners.
Glenn hit on 19-55 shots, including 3-17 from distance.
Glenn improves to 7-2 on the season, while Valley drops to 2-7.
Valley won the junior varsity game 41-39. Jaydin Conley led the winners with 14 points. Quentin Aldridge had 11 points and Jalen Potter eight for the JV Vikings.
Valley plays at Northfield Friday night. Glenn hosts Jimtown Tuesday night.
