Winter Activities Offered At Syracuse Public Library
SYRACUSE — Chair yoga is one of many free programs at the Syracuse Library. Adults are offered an easy series of moves at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. All that is needed is a towel. Join the Syracuse Wawasee Trails at the community center to walk or use the equipment at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Advanced chair yoga follows at 10:15 a.m. at the Syracuse Library.
Are you making a commitment to read more books in 2018? Book clubs are a way to get reading ideas and keep on track. The adult monthly noon book club is reading “The Little Paris Bookshop” by Nina George. The book spent a year on the bestseller list in Germany. Food from Fiction book club chases away the winter blues with lively books and the food they inspire. The January topic is about the cooking staff in the White House Chef mystery series. Julie Hyzy ‘s first book is “State of the Onion.” Books that relate to everyday science are read for the discussion group, anywhere, anytime, lifelong learning. Watch for the next one in late February.
Find ways for quiet times. Teens can now play Minecraft on the laptops in the YA area. Ancestry.com can be accessed for free in the Syracuse Library. Try out the comfortable easy chairs in the magazine and newspaper area.
Parents can encourage reading with the Thousand Books Before Kindergarten program. It is surprising how easy it can be to reach this goal. Children’s book club meets on the second Tuesday each month to introduce the library’s new books to children that read on their own.
The movie dates and times over the holiday break are as follows: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, and 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5th. Other activities for children are make-it, take-it Christmas cards craft on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 22 and 23. All other days have the following maker activities at 2 p.m.: s’mores, and if you make it you have to eat it, a bird feeder to help the birds this winter, goop, cookies and playing Uno. Get supplies for a flower decorating challenge and make it at the library or take it home and return by the last date, Jan. 5.
Adults and older teens can participate in a binge-watch challenge that ends Jan. 13. Anime club for teens is watching a video from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28.
