Triton Basketball: Lady Trojans Top Comets
BOURBON — Triton’s girls basketball team rebounded from a tough loss with a 56-38 Hoosier North Athletic Conference win over Caston back home at the Trojan Trench Thursday.
Hannah Wanemacher — who injured her ankle in practice just last Friday — poured in 23 points, knocking down 5 of 11 3-point shots on the way to her game-high as the Lady Trojans scored a season-high just two nights after scoring a season-low at Warsaw. Whytnie Miller scored 12 points while recording seven steals, eight rebounds and five assists versus just one turnover in a strong all-around game. Nicole Sehcrist chipped in eight points with 12 rebounds for Triton (7-9, 3-1 HNAC), which jumped out to a remote 23-1 lead in the first period and led by as many as 27 before weathering a 20-8 third period by the Comets (3-10, 0-3 HNAC).
The Lady Trojans surrendered only nine turnovers, while Caston coughed up 19, which the home team converted into 21 points.
Emily Holt scored 14 points with three steals and two assists to lead the visitors.
The Trojans now have a holiday layover before opening the new year with a game at Sectional 51 rival Oregon-Davis Jan. 3.
